After S Club 7 officialy split Rachel signed a テつ」1.5 million ($2.3 million) solo four-album deal with Polydor Records. Rachel released her first debut single 'Sweet Dreams My La Ex' which proved to be her most successful single to date which charted at number #2. The album was ready to be released September 29, 2003 and charted at number #9. The album received a mixed from music critics, some of whom complimented its surprising diversity, charm and relative depth. Rachel's first solo single was announced July 2003, titled 'L.A Ex'. Rachel signed a テつ」1.5 million 4 year album deal with Simon Fuller. 'L.A Ex' single title was re-named to 'Sweet Dreams My LA Ex' instead of 'L.A Ex'. The single is featured from Funky Dory, Rachel's first debut solo album. The single was released towards the end of 2003 in September 15th 2003. It was produced by Bloodshy & Avant, and written by Cathy Dennis, G. Karlsson, P. Winnberg and H. Jonback. The single received a mixed reception from pop-music critics even though its the most successful single to date from Rachel. Sweet Dreams My La Ex was at midweek number #01 but was revealed on Sundays Chart that the single peaked at number #02 on the UK singles chart by being beaten by Black Eyed Peas 'Where Is the Love?'. The song sold 225 000 copies and was Rachel's most successful single to date.

Funky Dory


Rachel's second solo single was the solo album name 'Funky Dory' with a re-worked single version. The single was written by M. Brammer and G. Clark and produced by David Eriksen. The song is built around a sample of the David Bowie song "Andy Warhol". The single was released around christmas time December 8th 2003. But the single reached number #26 in the UK with 8,000 copies being sold in the first week and 20,000 copies altogether marking the single Rachel's lowest chart and sales to date.
